Anil Sawant, PhD, has over 30 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. He has expertise in Quality & Compliance, Pharmaceutical Microbiology, Business Ethics, Auditing, and R&D functions. Anil has worked on various dosage forms, product types, drugs, biologics, vaccines, medical devices, and consumer products. He was involved in the launch of the first antibody-drug conjugate product and the first photoactive drug. Currently, Anil holds the position of Sr. Vice President, Global Quality Transformation, at Merck Sharpe & Dohme (MSD). In this role, he focuses on utilizing digital technologies and analytics for remote quality and compliance oversight of global supply chains. Prior to joining MSD, Anil held senior executive positions at Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer. Anil has co-authored numerous PDA Technical Reports and scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals, primarily on topics related to infectious diseases, antimicrobials, and yeast physiology. He holds a B.Sc. Honors and a M.Sc. Honors in Microbiology & Biochemistry from Panjab University, India. Additionally, he obtained a PhD in Microbial and Biochemical Sciences from Georgia State University, Atlanta. Anil is actively involved in various professional organizations. He serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Parenteral Drug Association and is a board member of the non-profit Mind Your Brain Foundation. He has also served on the Board of Directors of the GSU Alumni Association and recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award.
