With a career spanning clinical, pharmaceutical, and medical technology sectors, Belén has a passion for technology for the benefit of humanity and strong track record of building high-performing teams that successfully achieve ambitious goals, harness collective expertise, and advance a culture of innovation.
Belén is responsible for a best-in-class strategy that leverages digital tools including data, analytics, and artificial intelligence (AI) to break down silos, foster collaboration, and drive insights that make healthcare smarter and more efficient to speed up the discovery and development of life-saving therapies and solutions. Her vision sees beyond any individual digital breakthrough to reimagine how the entire healthcare system works, embracing technologies and data-driven approaches to spark innovation and deliver truly patient-centric care. This includes fostering strong internal and external partnerships that leverage data science and AI to lead where medicine is going. She serves on both the Innovative Medicines R&D Senior Leadership Team and J&J Data Science Council.
Previously, Belén held executive positions at leading organizations such as Philips, Moderna, and Novartis, where she was responsible for building new data science and AI capabilities, collaborating with leaders across IT, R&D, Commercial, and other functions. She also brings deep insights from her work at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, where she played a crucial role in value-based care, digital health integration, and patient-centric interventions. Belén began her career as an OB/GYN in Madrid, Spain, providing her with a strong foundation for understanding caregiver and patient needs. She holds an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, an MS in Healthcare Policy and Management from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and an MD from Madrid’s Complutense University School of Medicine. She is a guest lecturer at Harvard University.
