Prof. Nirmal Ganguly is working as Distinguished Biotechnology Professor & Advisor in the Translational Health Science and Technology Institute. He is President, Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education & Research, Pondicherry.He is currently Chairman of Immunology Foundation. He is Vice-President, Governing Body of Central Council for Research in Ayurveda & Siddha, Department of AYUSH, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. He is currently President of Asian Institute of Public Health and Technology. He is Adviser to Department of Health & Research. He was Advisor to Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India. He was Former Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research.

Prof.Ganguly has published 735 papers and guided 130 Ph.D thesis as guide/co-guide. His major research areas have been tropical diseases, cardiovascular diseases and diarrhoeal diseases. His area of specialization is infection and has interests in this area ranges from immunology, biotechnology and public health.

He has been Chair of WHO-SEARO Advisory Committee on Health Research for the last several yearrs. He was Chairman, WHO Scientific Working Group on Criteria for Setting Health Research Priorities, WHO SEARO, New Delhi and Co-Chairman, Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI). He was in the Scientific Advisory Group of Neglected Diseases, WHO. He was member, Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee (STAC) of TDR; Special Programme of Research, Development and Research Training in Human Reproduction; Foundation Council, Global Forum for Health Research, Geneva; UNAIDS Vaccine Advisory Committee; Scientific Board Grand Challenges, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; He is President, Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research, Puducherry. He is Chairman, IND Committee of Drug Controller General of India. He is Co-chairman, Task Force of Biotech Regulatory Authority, Department of Biotechnology. He is Chairman, Ethics Committee of Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh & All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

Prof.Ganguly is MBBS, MD, DSc and Fellow of Imperial College Faculty of Medicine, London; Royal College of Pathologists, London; International Academy of Cardiovascular Sciences, Canada; Third World Academy of Sciences, Italy; and International Medical Sciences Academy, New Delhi.

Dr. Ganguly is receipent of 4 International and 102 National awards. He has been honoured with the prestigious Padma Bhushan award by Her Excellency the President of India on 26th of January, 2008 in the field of 'Medicine'.
