Martin Fitchet, M.D., is Chief Operating Officer for the global Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research & Development organization overseeing operational excellence and execution of the company’s disease-focused therapeutic areas and functional development teams. Dr. Fitchet also serves as Global Therapeutic Area Head, Cardiovascular & Metabolism, leading global research and development to deliver medicines to meet the significant medical needs in these disease categories.

Dr. Fitchet first joined the Company in 2000 and has held numerous positions of increasing responsibility, including Global Head, Internal Medicine, for the CNS/Internal Medicine franchise of J&JPRD, with responsibility for the development of metabolic, gastrointestinal and antibiotic compounds. Earlier, he held the position of Therapeutic Area Head for Endocrinology and Gastrointestinal Disorders.

Prior to returning to J&JPRD in the fall of 2008, Dr. Fitchet worked at Sanofi-Aventis Pharmaceuticals in its U.S. Medical Affairs organization. He later joined Novartis as Vice President, Global Clinical Development and Medical Affairs, and was subsequently named Global Head, Clinical Development and Medical Affairs, for its Cardiovascular & Metabolism franchise.

Dr. Fitchet earned his medical degree at the University of Nottingham Medical School in Nottingham, UK. In 1995 he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and later an Associate of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine in London, UK.
