James Mullen is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Biogen Idec. He has served in these positions since the merger in November 2003. Mr. Mullen joined Biogen Inc. in 1989. He was named Chief Executive Officer in 2000 and Chairman in 2002. Prior to being named CEO and Chairman, he held the positions of President and Chief Operating Officer (1999-2000); Vice President, International (1996-1999); Vice President, Operations (1992-1996); and Director, Facilities and Engineering (1989-1992). Mr. Mullen is a member of the Board of Directors of PerkinElmer Inc. and the Biomedical Science Careers Program Inc. He holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an M.B.A. from Villanova University.
