Dr. Winkler is currently the Senior Vice President of Asia-Pacific and Global Government Strategy with a broad range of responsibilities for new business initiatives including the development of markets, M&A and corporate branding activities in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as global government relations. He joined Biogen Idec in Cambridge, MA, in 1988 as research scientist. Since joining the company he has developed Amevive, an immunomodulator for the treatment of psoriasis, and held various managerial positions in clinical development, program management, and corporate administration.
Dr. Winkler was born and educated in Austria, and holds an M.S. and Ph.D., in biochemistry, from the University of Vienna. He completed his postdoctoral research at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. His academic achievements include discoveries related to structure-host relationship of flavivirus proteins, has published more than 30 articles, and received an award for innovative research from the Austrian Society of Microbiology. |
