Dr. Goutam Das is the Chief Operating officer, Syngene International Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Biocon Limited. He joined the company in 1994 and has played a pivotal role in successfully establishing India's first custom research organization. Syngene has consistently advanced its leadership position in research services.
Under the able guidance of Dr. Das, today several of the top pharmaceutical companies worldwide are part of Syngene's clientele. Syngene has designed and managed pre-clinical research projects for multinational companies engaged in new drug discovery. In line with the growing demand for Syngene's services in custom drug development, the company has recently opened a new research centre offering impressive capabilities in niche areas of Synthetic Chemistry, Molecular Biology and Custom Synthesis. Dr. Das is also a part of the key management team at Biocon.
He joined Syngene as Director, Molecular Biology, in 1994 and became the company's Chief Operating Officer the following year. Prior to joining the Biocon group, Dr. Das was with the Astra Zeneca Research Centre from 1988-1994.
Dr. Dass graduated from the Indian Institute of Chemical Biology, Kolkata in 1982 and went on to obtain a Post Doctoral Fellow, Department of Biophysics and Biochemistry, University of Rochester, NY, USA in 1988.
Dr. Goutam Dass has received the R.D. Birla Memorial fellowship, 1981-1982, the Lady Tata Memorial Fellowship, 1979-1981 and the National Scholar Award, Government of India, 1971-1978. He is a member of the American Society of Microbiology and also a member of the Society of Biological Chemists, India.
