Gary L. Stiles, M.D., a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), joined Wyeth in January 2004 as Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for Wyeth Pharmaceuticals.
As Chief Medical Officer at Wyeth, Dr. Stiles is responsible for the Clinical Research and Development, Global Medical Affairs and Global Health Outcomes Assessment organizations. As CMO, he plays a critical role in shaping corporate medical policy, clinical research strategy to support both the scientific and commercial vision of the company.
Dr. Stiles joined Wyeth from Duke University Health System where he had been Vice President and Chief Medical Officer from 1999 to 2004, prior to that he was Chief of Cardiology at Duke from 1989 to 1999. In addition, he ran the Cardiovascular Training program at Duke for many years. He received his M.D. from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and completing his residency in internal medicine at Vanderbilt Hospital and his cardiology fellowship at Duke University Medical Center.
Dr. Stiles has authored more than 150 articles in peer reviewed scientific journals and other medical publications. He has served as an editor on numerous journals, including The Journal of Biological Chemistry, Molecular Pharmacology and the American Heart Journal.
