Frederick Frank

Vice Chairman and Director, Lehman Brothers

Fred is a Director of Lehman Brothers. Before joining Lehman Brothers as a Partner in October 1969, Mr. Frank was co-director of research, as well as Vice President and Director, of Smith, Barney & Co. Inc. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst, a member of The New York Society of Security Analysts and a past president of the Chemical Processing Industry Analysts.

Fred is a veteran and experienced specialist in investment banking services for companies in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical devices, and healthcare services industries. He has managed hundreds of financing/M&A transactions in the healthcare sector including the Bristol-Myers Squibb merger, the Roche/Genentech merger, the IPO of Applied Biosystems, the HGS/ SmithKline- Beecham Collaboration, the merger of Synthelabo and Sanofi, the acquisition by Glaxo of Affymax, as well as the acquisition of Allergan by SmithKline Beecham, and most recently the acquisition of Diagnostic Products by Siemens and the acquisition of Rinat Neurosciences by Pfizer.

In addition to serving on the board of Epix Pharmaceuticals, Mr. Frank is a director of Digital Arts & Sciences, Inc.; Landec Corporation; Institute for Systems Biology; ICON Biopharma, Inc.; and Pharmaceutical Product Development, Inc. He is senior advisor to Puretech Ventures. He is chairman of the National Genetics Foundation, a past director of the Salk Institute, a member of the Yale School of Management advisory board, a member of the advisory boards of Pharmaceutical Executive Magazine and the Journal of Life Sciences, chairman of the board of the Irvington Institute for Immunological Research, and a member of the advisory boards of the Harvard School of Public Health and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He serves on the advisory board of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Center for Biomedical Innovation.

Fred was honored for Outstanding Contributions in the Field of Immunology in 1998 by the Irvington Institute for Immunological Research, and, in 1997, he received the Biotech Meeting at Laguna Niguel Hall of Fame Award for Special Recognition for an Individual. He received the Albert Einstein Award from the Weizmann Institute of Science in 2004 and the 2006 Gilda's Club of New York City Visionary Award, and was selected as one of the Top 100 Living Contributors to Biotechnology by Reed Elsevier. In 2007 he received the Award for Excellence from the American Liver Foundation.

Mr. Frank holds a B.A. from Yale University and an MBA from Stanford Business School.
