Biotech, Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Council
Background:
India's growing population of over 1 billion presents a great market opportunity for the US life science companies. With the liberalization of Indian economy and its willingness to adapt to the new technologies, timing to sell in the Indian market is now. India's large pool of talented scientific and technical manpower, low R&D cost and lower cost of manufacturing has made it an attractive destination for sourcing. Further stimulus has been given by the new Patent law passed by the Indian parliament in accordance with the TRIPS agreement of WTO. Businesses in the US lack the advantage of common experiences from others dealing with India. In many cases, they have to deal with similar issues again and again. USA-India Chamber of Commerce has taken an initiative to bring together senior executives from the Life Sciences industry with the support of industry, industry groups and the government officials to form the Biotech, Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Council.
